Heads Up! TechCrunch Will Look A Little Different Next Week

Next week we'll be rolling out significant enhancements to TechCrunch. A new design and a new logo will be the first thing you'll notice. But behind the scenes we've made significant changes to the other end of TechCrunch as well - the admin system that we spend all day typing into. We are particularly focused on speed and efficiency. Pages should load much more quickly now than they have, and content should be much easier for our writers to create and publish. We're also going to fold some of our sister sites into TechCrunch. CrunchGear, MobileCrunch, and TechCrunch IT will all be under the TechCrunch domain. The old URLs will redirect, and readers will be able to see the content from those same writers via filters and topics on TechCrunch. TechCrunch EU, TechCrunch France and TechCrunch Japan will remain separate sites on the TechCrunch.com domain. This has been a big project. We began last summer before the AOL acquisition. After the acquisition Dave Feldman, Director of Consumer Experience at AOL, took over and brought in additional resources.

HP TouchPad parts analyzed, manufacturing cost similar to the iPad 2

HP TouchPad manufacturing parts analyzed, costs about as much to build as the iPad 2
We know what's inside the TouchPad and we know just what it's like to live with the culmination of those parts, and now Isuppli is doing its best to figure out just what those individual components set HP back each time one rolls off the assembly line. According to that firm's analysis, the grand cost to build a single $599.99 MSRP, 32GB TouchPad is $328. That's but $12 more than the 16GB version, which of course retails for $100 less at $499.99. That $328 cost is quite comparable to a 32GB iPad 2, which tallies up at $326 in 3G form according to the source. In other words, HP seems to be maintaining similar margins to Apple, begging the question: can it afford to do so?

Wood Holds-off Sheehan at The Magic Mile

Week Eleven took the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC) to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for some flat track online racing action. Fresh off wins at Pocono and Michigan, Steve Sheehan grabbed the pole at The Magic Mile but fell just short in his quest for three wins in a row as JR Motorsports teammate Derek Wood claimed a hotly-contested battle for the victory. Qualifying saw Wood join Sheehan on the front row and, right from the drop of the green flag, the two teammates battled for the top spot.  Racing throughout the whole field was intense from the get-go as dirty air made it very difficult for anyone to make a pass even if they had the faster car. The first 46 laps went caution-free with Sheehan pacing the [...]

2013 Infiniti JX teaser - Click above to enlarge

Infiniti has released an image of the upcoming JX crossover, and the newest family member is posing for the camera like an awkward teen on Facebook. Still, the sweeping family lines are clearly visible, as is an aggressive headlight treatment and a muscular front fender that reminds of company's EX and FX softroader lines.

The seven-passenger Infiniti JX will make its world debut at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance next month. A production version of the 2013 JX will arrive at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. After that, the JX will roll onto dealer lots by the spring of 2012.
