ken block and his 2011 ford fiesta hfhv on the set of gymkhana four

A new car, updated livery and a fresh set of tires can only mean one thing for Ken Block - a new Gymkhana video is in the works, and it's slated to take over YouTube sometime this summer. The new instrument of driving precision and rubber destruction is Block's Ford Fiesta Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle.

Gymkhana Four will no doubt be another internet sensation, one that will add to the constantly growing mass of people who've viewed the previous three videos. To date, Gymkhana installments one through three have been watched over 110 million times, with Gymkhana Three making its way on to YouTube's list of Top 10 Videos of 2010.

Whether you think it's merely a marketing stunt, a display of skill behind the wheel or something in between, there's little doubt that you're going to watch it. We'll do the same, and you'll be sure to find it here on Autoblog when Ken Block and DC Shoes release the finished version. For now, you can get a taste of what's to come by checking out the image gallery above.

Open-Source Software Winning Mainstream Status in Enterprises

Industry observers have been predicting for years that open-source software will achieve mainstream adoption. Five years ago, open source was in its “nascent stages” and its future “was promising but still unknown,” said Michael Skok, general partner at North Bridge Venture Partners. He presented the fifth annual Future of Open Source Survey at Computerworlds Open Source Business Conference in San Francisco. The latest survey results “clearly demonstrate” that open source “has gone mainstream,” Skok said, as organizations focus on improving “operational excellence around areas such as support, product management, feature functionality and return on investment.” Open source is being implemented across a wide variety of markets and applications. Examples include the Obama administrations selection of the Drupal content-management system for WhiteHouse.gov, Yahoos Hadoop software framework being deployed in data centers to manage big data applications and Apaches software becoming the de facto standard for Web servers. Microsoft even includes Drupal in its Microsoft Web Platform. eWEEK presents some of the slides from Skoks keynote to highlight the major findings of the Future of Open Source Survey. - ...

Ultrabooks to start arriving in September, more expensive than expected

ASUS UX21
Looks like those skinny Ultrabooks Intel was trying to sell us on at Computex will all be hitting the market at roughly the same time. Despite earlier suggestions that HP would beat ASUS's planned September launch, DigiTimes reports the Palo Alto company's Air competitor may not actually ship until as late as Q1 of 2012, thanks to LCD supply issues. Those problems scoring enough panels are also holding up similar systems from Acer and Dell. To make matters worse, it seems those promised sub $1,000 price points were a bit optimistic. ASUS told the Taipei Times that its UX line would only be able to hit such a price using slower Core i3 chips -- upgrading to a Core i5 and sticking in an SSD would push the price towards the $2,000 mark.

[Thanks, Marco]
