Messaging App Moves Users Closer to Facebook, Further From Phone Numbers

Facebook launched a new mobile app Tuesday that provides SMS and Facebook message services as well as group chats between phone contacts and Facebook friends. By Wednesday morning, the app topped the list of free apps in the iTunes store. The feature is a challenge to traditional messaging and could take on competitors such as Research In Motion's BlackBerry Messenger.

Now You Can Not Know What Time It Is on Your iPad, Too!

The Dominus Plus app is for those of us who don’t wear a watch but still want one of those artsy timepieces that use colored light patterns to show the time.  The Dominus Plus! app for iPad  or the Dominus Plus for iPhone/iPod touch use colored dots to display the time.  AM and PM use [...]

Carrier coverage, price plan and operating system are key to buying smartphones

The right way to shop for a smartphone is to pick a carrier with coverage and a price plan that fits your needs first. But if you're going to choose a smartphone first, you should start by picking its operating system.

My Mac Windows Switch

eWEEK Labs Technical Director Cameron Sturdevant's year of using and covering Apple products in the enterprise has come to an end with a newfound respect for Mac hardware and the resistance of Mac OS X 10.6.3, code-named Snow Leopard, to hacks and viruses. For executives and high-value creative content users he sees Apple's appeal. But as we enter the cloud computing age, Sturdevant is less enamored of fat clients of any variety for routine office workers. - For just over a year I've used a variety of Apple devices from the Xserve and Mac Pro to the iPhone and MacBook Pro and even a Mac Mini as my primary work systems in a Windows-oriented IT shop. I made the switch because Apple PCs and iPhones and now iPads are coming into the enterprise. I wanted...

Citrix app opens Windows for Chromebook owners

Google hasn't made any bones about its desire to position Chrome OS as a presence in the business space. But for plenty of users, the relatively limited functionality of Chromebooks doesn't quite get the job done when it comes to doing serious work. The latest offering from Citrix could change that for a number of Chromebook-sporting business-types, offering access to Windows applications and desktops. Citrix Receiver Tech Preview is free from the Chrome Web Store (but requires a MyCitrix login). So now there's no excuse for not getting any work done -- except maybe a bad connection.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Road Test: Four Doors, Dusts Corvettes

It costs as much as a dozen older Benzes, but the CLS63 makes a convincing case for buying just one new one. Let?s get one thing straight: If you are reading this to figure out if you should purchase this $130,000 automobile, the answer is yes. Everyone should have one, if not two, 500-plus-hp interstate [...]

Perez expects much stronger 2012

Sergio Perez is confident he will have a much stronger second season in Formula 1 next year after a solid debut campaign with Sauber. Perez, the first Mexican Formula 1 driver in nearly 30 years, has enjoyed a strong first half of the season with the Swiss squad, having scored eight points so far. The rookie is optimistic, however, that he will be able to build on his first year in Formula 1 to be much better in 2012, both on and off the track.
