Blanket EU Privacy Regs Could Make Facebook Break a Sweat

The European Union may begin an overhaul of its 1995 Data Protection Directive next year to provide one single unified body of legislation on this issue. EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding will propose the reform in January, according to spokesperson Matthew Newman.

UK boards the Acer Liquid Express, Tom Hanks not embedded with NFC

Because phones, like fashion, must always look to the future, Acer's hitching its ride to NFC. The oft-talked about, but still sparsely used tech gets top-billing here as the company refreshes its Liquid line for T-Mobile UK and Orange UK with the Express. It's a solidly mid-range Gingerbread affair, packing an 800MHz Qualcomm 7227 processor, Android 2.3 and 5 megapixel shooter into a 3.5-inch package. Okay, so it's not the best of what's around in wireless, but can you really argue with free (on a two-year contract)? We didn't think so. Follow on past the break for the official presser.

Vettel compares race to Senna in ?91

Sebastian Vettel compared his second placed finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix to Ayrton Senna's victory in the same race in 1991, after driving with a gearbox problem for most of the Interlagos event. The world champion converted his pole position into the lead at the first corner, but was informed of a fault with his gearbox early on by his engineer, and was told to manage the problem by short-shifting in second and third gears.

Video: Vettel says title yet to sink in

Sebastian Vettel says the magnitude of winning his second straight title, and becoming the youngest double champion in Formula 1 history, is yet to fully sink in. The 24-year-old joined an elite list of drivers including Fernando Alonso, Emerson Fittipaldi and Jim Clark in winning his second world championship crown. While the title was all but assured following victory one race earlier in Singapore, Vettel says he was never thinking about the championship during the Japanese Grand Prix and that it will take time to fully appreciate his feat.
